Aeriscan Roof

AI-Powered Roof
Moisture & Defect Detection

Thermal and RGB drone imagery combined with 3D surface modelling to find what the naked eye can't see. Subsurface moisture, ponding risk, and surface deterioration, all classified and mapped.

The Challenge

Roof defects hide beneath the surface

By the time moisture damage becomes visible from below, extensive deterioration has often already occurred within the roof assembly. Traditional visual inspections can only assess surface conditions.

Visual Inspections

Surface only

Cannot detect moisture trapped within the roof assembly

Core Sampling Alone

Where do you cut?

Without targeting, cores may miss the problem areas entirely

Why thermal works: Trapped moisture has a different thermal mass than dry roofing materials. As the roof heats and cools, wet areas retain heat longer, creating measurable temperature differentials that our AI detects and maps across the entire roof surface.

How It Works

Capture. Classify. Deliver.

The same proven four-step pipeline, optimized for commercial flat roof inspection with thermal imagery.

01

Capture

Our drones capture high-resolution RGB imagery and thermal infrared imagery of the entire roof surface. Thermal flights are timed for optimal contrast, typically during the evening cooling period when moisture anomalies are most pronounced.

RTK positioning ensures every thermal and RGB pixel is precisely georeferenced for accurate defect mapping.

02

Reconstruct

Photogrammetric processing generates aligned thermal and RGB orthomosaics plus a Digital Surface Model. The DSM reveals drainage patterns, ponding zones, and subtle grade issues that contribute to moisture problems.

Multi-modal alignment ensures thermal anomalies can be precisely located on the visible RGB imagery.

03

Analyze

Our proprietary deep learning model combines visual and thermal imagery with 3D surface data to classify every pixel. The AI identifies subsurface moisture zones, ponding water, debris accumulation, staining, and ballast displacement.

Multiple input channels enable detection of subtle anomalies across the full roof.

04

Deliver

Every project is reviewed by our team before delivery. You receive a professional PDF report with moisture zone maps, severity classifications, repair prioritization, and georeferenced GIS data for integration with your facility management system.

Side-by-side thermal and RGB views in the report appendix let you see exactly where each anomaly is located on the roof.

Defect Detection

What We Detect

The AI model classifies every pixel across six categories, combining thermal and visible imagery for detections impossible with either modality alone.

Subsurface Moisture

Trapped water within the roof assembly detected through thermal anomaly analysis. The primary finding that drives repair decisions.

Critical

Ponding Water

Standing water on the roof surface. DEM-derived drainage analysis identifies ponding risk zones even when dry.

High priority

Debris & Accumulation

Foreign material on the roof surface that can trap moisture, block drainage, or cause mechanical damage.

Medium priority

Surface Staining

Discoloration indicating chemical breakdown, biological growth, or past water exposure.

Medium priority

Ballast Displacement

Shifted or missing ballast stones exposing the membrane underneath. Common after high winds or repair work.

Medium priority

Surface Deterioration

Visible wear, damage, or degradation of the roof surface identified through RGB analysis.

High priority

Important note: Thermal infrared inspection identifies areas of suspected moisture based on thermal anomaly patterns. Confirmation through core sampling of flagged areas is recommended before specifying repairs. Results should be reviewed by a qualified roofing professional.
